Red Rebels
Red Rebels: Silent warning in a red guise
Munich – They parade through the streets like ghostly mythical creatures: The Red Rebels, an international performance activist group, draw attention to the global environmental crisis with silent processions. A sight that is both fascinating and thought-provoking – red robes, white masks, no words, but powerful images.
For months, I accompanied a Munich group of the Red Rebels and marvelled at how meticulously every action is planned. From sewing the costumes to rehearsing the non-verbal tableaux, everyone works hand in hand. Their aim: to send an urgent reminder to politicians and society to do more to protect our planet.
With their bright robes, they symbolise the urgency of climate change, while the silence in the streets seems louder than many a cry of protest. Wherever they appear, they cause a stir – and perhaps a rethink.

A major Swedish daily newspaper published several of my photographs in a long article about the environmental movement.
